What I got for christmas 2013

Hey lovelies,
I hope you all had an amazing christmas.
I just really quickly wanted to share with you what I got for christmas this year.

I know it doesn't seem like I got very much compared to what you sometimes see in other families, but my family just sticks to one gift a person.
This year we also agreed to find gifts that were somewhere around the 20 euros mark, because we don't feel like we need to spend hundreds of euros on eachother. We just enjoy the company and mainly the food =D
So without further ado.. Here's what I got for christmas.

Candy yum-yum is the color on the right

My mom got me this MAC lipstick in Candy yum-yum. It's a very bright neon pink and it has a matte finish. I know it doesn't look really vibrant in the pictures, but that because the lighting is washing it out (I'm sorry =S).

Vegas Volt is the color on the left

My brother got me a MAC lipstick in the color Vegas Volt, which is kind of a coral-orangy nude. This is an amplified creme lipstick, which are my favorite MAC lipsticks, because they are very pigmented and still very soft and creamy on the lips.

My sister got me the coastal scents 88 original palette. I was so happy with this gift, because I've been wanting to buy this for myself for the longest time. The reason I love this palette is because it's got every color that you could want. It has an assortment of neutrals and colors. And also matte and shimmery eyeshadows. It think this palette is perfect for beginners. It's also really really cheap *Bonus points*. I had shown my sister this palette online about a month ago and told her I really wanted it. So I'm so happy she bought it for me. And it turns out she liked it so much, she even bought it for herself.

I'm obsessed with Tinkerbell. She is hands down my favorite Disney character. One of my friends knew this and she bought me this Tinkerbell cup. This may sound strange, but this is my favorite gift this year. I know it's something so simple, but because of that I love it. Because it's a very thoughtful gift. Those are always the best, aren't they??

There's still two more gift I have yet to receive, but other than that, this is all I got for christmas.

What did you get for christmas this year?? Did you like your presents as much as I like mine?? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me a picture of your gifts @_MakeUpDiary_

DIY: Make your own brush spot cleanser

I like the look of clean makeup brushes. They almost look brand new, which I think is really fun. What I don't like is to actually deep clean my brushes. You spend all this time making sure they're really clean, you let them dry overnight and then you use them the next morning and BAM.. All dirty again!!

So, you can only imagine how much I love spot cleanser. It only takes 5 seconds to get clean brushes. Well, clean-ish brushes, you should deep clean your brushes once a week (or once every other week if you're just as lazy as me) to get rid of all the bacteria that accumulates in the bristles of your brush. Spot cleansers can be way too expensive though and it's actually really easy to make your own spot cleanser with products that you probably already have. I'm gonna show you how..

What you'll need:
- Babyshampoo
- Rubbing/Isopropyl alcohol
- Bottled water
- Empty (spray)bottle

How it works:
You want to start off by putting just a little bit of the rubbing alcohol in the bottom of your bottle. Be sure not to put in too much, because the alcohol will dry out the bristles of your brush. Next just fill the bottle 3/4 of the way with bottled water and then add a few tablespoons of babyshampoo. You also don't want to overdo it on the babyshampoo, because that will make your cleanser too soapy.

How to use it:
Just spray -or pump in my case- a little bit of the cleanser on a paper towel and gently rub your dirty brush in small circular motions until it looks clean.
It's that easy!!

As you can see from the pictures above it works just fine. I do have to say that with liquid or creamy products it takes an extra pump/spray to get them really clean.
Just remember this is only a temporary solution for dirty brushes and they do still need a deep clean every now and then ;)

Top 10 MAC eyeshadows

Hey guys,

I'm really sorry about missing last week, but I was sick in bed all week.
But I'm back now and today I'm sharing my top 10 MAC eyeshadows with you all..

So let's get started

1. All that glitters

2. Coppering

3. Woodwinked

4. Sable

5. Satin taupe

6. Amber lights

7. Naked lunch

8. Smut

9. Espresso

10. Contrast

I personally think these shadows are perfect if you are just starting out with makeup. You can pretty much create every neutral eyelook with these colors. The reason I didn't incorporate any bright colors is because you wouldn't wear those on a daily basis. If you would like me to do a top 10 of bright MAC eyeshadows let me know in the comments below or on twitter @_MakeUpDiary_

Do I need to use a toner?

Wash, tone, moisturize.. I remember a few years ago it seemed so obvious for everyone to use a toner after they've cleansed their face.
Nowadays it seems no one even knows it exists or why they should incorporate it into their skincare.
The question a lot of people ask is "Do I NEED to use a toner?". Well, I'm here to tell you that no, you do not NEED to use a toner.
I know a lot of beauty gurus and aestheticians will tell you otherwise, but trust me.. I've done my research.

Toner is known to restore your skin's natural pH-balance, which is why a lot of people suggest you use it. But the thing is, the cleansers that are out on the market right now don't actually take away from your skin's pH-balance.
Now if you use a bar of soap to clean your face then you SHOULD use a toner, because those are really damaging for your skin. If this is you, then the best thing you could do is to stop using that bar of soap right now and invest in a good cleanser.
The reason I like to use toner is because it whisks away any residue that your cleanser might have left and it also takes away the dead skin cells that are still on your face. I do have to say that a good cleanser will already do that for you, but I feel like it doesn't hurt to kind of double cleanse my face.

On a more important note.. Toner isn't recommended for every skin type. If you have dry or normal skin, then feel free to completely skip this step. Toner can be overly drying on your skin. It is mostly meant for people like me who suffer from extremely oily, acne-prone skin. What toner will do for us is take away the layer of oil that spreads across our face.

If you don't have oily skin, but you like what your toner is doing for your skin then by all means keep doing it. Most toners aren't as drying as they used to be, so it shouldn't do much harm to your skin. The one thing I do have to point out is to stay away from alcohol-based toners. They are the worst for your skin. I know when you have oily skin that it feels like it's the only thing that's helping you from getting super oily and shiny throughout the day, but it's actually really really damaging for your skin. The only type of toners I suggest are water-based toners.
Also, don't use rosewater as a toner. I know that there are people who swear by rosewater and say it's really soft and gentle on your skin, but it's really not. Because it's overly fragranced it can really irritate your skin.

I hope I've helped some of you out with this. If you have any more questions about skincare please ask me in the comments below or on twitter @_MakeUpDiary_
